ARTIST STATEMENT - Speak about unspoken words
I chose to focus my photography major on a series of portraits protesting against a common problem ‘rape’. Protest art acts as an important tool to form social consciousness, Social movements produce such works and are used to convey a particular cause or message. I am very interested in this topic and that’s why I chose to represent this social issue through my major work.
The portraits have been processed as black and white to capture the expressive qualities and deep thoughtfulness of my subjects, I left red writing to emphasise words like ‘no’ and ‘stop’ and to make a focal point that captures ones eye and highlights to the audience the protest words.
By focusing on this social issue I hope to spread more awareness about this topic and hopefully make some sort of change on the journey our world is going through to stop rape culture.
